Baptist Health is full of everyday heroes who go above and beyond to care for others. Meet Sara Gabuardi-Licor, Bariatric Surgical Coordinator, Baptist Health Medical Group General Surgery. . “It’s a privilege to be part of our bariatric program that has helped so many patients accomplish their goals. Some of their goals are simple things other people may take for granted, like riding a rollercoaster or sitting in a chair without fearing it will collapse. Twice a week, I facilitate bariatric surgery information seminars with our surgeons, and that’s where I meet many of our patients for the first time. My role involves helping patients through the lengthy and complicated process leading up to weight-loss surgery, including guiding them through insurance requirements and making sure they visit their Primary Care doctor. Many patients want to lose weight right away, and some become depressed when they learn it will take time. I listen to them, calm them down and encourage them by letting them know I’m here for them throughout the entire process. Best of all, I call them to deliver the good news that they are approved for surgery. When patients return to our office after surgery they are eager to see me, and I’m eager to see them also. They want me to see the drastic change I helped them make in their life, for which they are very grateful. Seeing someone go from using a walker to walking on their own makes me very happy. The adolescent patients are very special to me, especially since I have two teenagers. To see a young person struggle with obesity and experience bullying saddens me. I put myself in their shoes, and it’s an amazingly rewarding feeling to know you have made an impact on someone’s life and changed the outlook on their future." . .

When your dream becomes a reality. A year ago this month, @clarapablo ”rang the bell,” signifying the end of her radiation treatment. Today, she continues to inspire and empower others to become their own champion. @clarapablo ・・・ •JANUARY 23• Throughout the Nine months I was in treatment I would hear a bell ring followed by clapping and cheering. And every day I was in the hospital I would walk by that bell and dream about one day ringing it because it meant I was done with my treatment. A year ago today I was finally able to ring that bell in front of my amazing support group; my family, my friends and my incredible team of doctors and nurses at MCI. As I sit here a year later and see how much my life has changed, how I’m healthy again, traveling the world and working hard trying to make my dreams come true while advocating for breast cancer awareness I can’t help but be grateful to God. We may have our downs but God will always find a way to help us reach our ups. If you are struggling right now remember that the storm will pass and that our God is bigger than our fears and stronger than our sickness! Don’t give up because you too will be ringing your “bell” soon! . .

Breast cancer awareness goes beyond October, we had the opportunity to once again honor those taken by , support the fighters and admire the survivors at the West Palm Beach @susangkomen race for the cure.

Congratulations to the 20,000 participants of the 2019 Fitbit Miami Marathon and Half Marathon, and thank you to all of our volunteers! . .
