Curious about this poem? It is about the complete transformation I experienced as I healed from the trauma of my sexual abuse - the transformation from surviving to thriving! At first, I was just surviving. I worried all the time. I saw never-ending danger in every aspect of my life - relationships, work, my memories, and my feelings. I focused most of my energy and attention on avoiding dangers 😨, or if I couldn't avoid them, defending against them.👊 Hence the meaning of these lines in the poem: Avoid, avoid, avoid Defend, defend One day, I decided that I didn't want to live this way anymore. I decided to move toward what I wanted in my life instead of away from what I didn't want. I reached for joy.🙅 Very soon after, an opportunity to experience something I enjoy presented itself to me. My usual thoughts that something bad would happen if I let my guard down or I would just end up getting hurt came into my mind, but I chose to ignore them. I reached for joy and got it for the fist time since my trauma! Hence the meaning of these lines in the poem: Reach, grasp, enjoy This success encourage me to keep reaching for joy, and eventually, this became a way of life for me. Hence the meaning of the last line in the poem: Then enjoy again I'm not saying I haven't felt fear, disappointment, or pain since I adopted this optimistic mindset, but I no loner hide from them. I realized that all experiences are opportunities for joy when I grow from them. Iv'e become a confident women who loves herself and leads a fulfilling life. As a certified life coach, I help women who have experienced sexual abuse as children experience the same transformation. Are you or a woman you know ready to transform like I did? A message from our beloved ZEFYR LIFE @zefyrworldwide Family member Mira SORVINO @mirasorvino 🕊🙏🏻 ・・・ This week we @timesupnow shared a major legislative win w/ @nygovcuomo signing a bill which extended the Statute of Limitations for 2nd & 3rd degree rape to 20 & 10 yrs respectively. This summer we took a bus up to Albany to help try & push our agenda over the finish line w/state legislators. On the bus ride up I decided I had to speak as a survivor in order to make people understand how very very difficult coming forward is,thereby revealing something very personal I had not before. @lesliebeakersilva & @carmenlobue & Robbie Kaplan also spoke alongside Governor Cuomo, who was very passionately in support of this bundle of laws which would also end the standard in bringing #sexualharassment suits.Afterwards we lobbied alongside @senatorbiaggi & @aravellasimotas & Leslie & Carmen did a tremendous job of swaying ❤️s & minds about how incredibly necessary this legislation was, especially for women of color in marginalized communities. We could not have had a better champion in Governor Cuomo-he was incredibly eloquent, heartfelt & gracious w/the public & us.When the bill passed the legislature we knew it was the culmination of years of lobbying,& of grassroots support of literally 50K people who reached out to their reps. This week we @timesupnow shared a major legislative win w/ @nygovcuomo signing a bill which extended the Statute of Limitations for 2nd & 3rd degree rape to 20 & 10 yrs respectively. The & others also worked hard on this. When the Governor asked me to come to NYC to witness the signing (which enacts the bill) I almost said no,because although proud of being a part of the passage, the speech I gave in the summer had some triggering retraumatizing effects on me.But then I decided we have to celebrate these hard fought victories, have to live in the positive present. So I came & gave a speech (posted to my IGTV) aimed directly at my fellow survivors, assuring them that progress IS possible when we raise our voices together, that we are changing things, that there is hope & they are not alone-we fight this fight for all people of every kind & we will not rest until justice & safety is the norm I was so happy & proud to speak alongside the very moving @realmichellehurd & @juliannemoore It became a joyous celebration as Cuomo signed & I tried to get it all📸
