9/11 Memorial - World Trade Centre Site

On the steps of Liberty Park, exactly one week ago, I had the opportunity to observe events for the 911 Memorial ceremony at the World Trade Center site in Lower Manhattan. With pastels and paper in hand I took to the streets to capture the unique ways people came to pay their respects! Most notably, I witnessed a tousled gentleman solemnly carrying tunes through his flute. A seated lady in beige bodysuit mediating amongst the chaos. A homeless women transporting twelve white roses in a satin-finish metal pushcart. A black man in a maga hat waving a pro-Trump flag. And a hipster standing with his arms crossed. @911memorial @realdonaldtrump @donaldjtrumpjr @wtc #september11

National September 11 Memorial & Museum

Meet Pedro Almanzar. Pedro is one of the caretakers at the 9/11 Memorial. Pedro and his colleagues toil (sometimes right through the night) with a great sense of pride and humility to make sure the memorial looks pristine each day -- and especially on September 11. . . They have got to known the names on the memorial, and sometimes find themselves overwhelmed with emotion, especially when a family member comes by to thank them for the work they do. . . Many in our newsroom felt last week's 9/11 observance was an especially emotional one. But Jen Maxfield's story of Pedro and his colleagues managed to warm the heart, and she said it was an honor to tell it. . . @jenmaxfieldnews talked to @davidushery4ny about covering the story of these unsung heroes on 'The Debrief' podcast this week. Click the link in our bio to hear from Pedro and his colleagues. ✨ . . /11 #september11
