BMR scales with weight - a bigger person uses more calories to stay alive than a smaller person (just like an Alsatian requires more calories than a Shih-Tzu).⁣ ⁣ It slows down very slightly as you age, but perhaps by only as much as 4% (assuming you kept the same total amount of tissue).⁣ ⁣ TEF refers to the metabolic cost of digesting and assimilating what you eat into useful for your (pun entirely intended). Protein burns more than Carbs which burns more than Fat.⁣ ⁣ EAT refers to the calories you burn during exercise. Do more of it, do it harder, do it longer and you’ll burn more calories - pretty straight-forward.⁣ ⁣ NEAT refers to the calories you burn doing everything that isn’t classed as exercise. This accounts for the biggest differences between individuals of the same weight, perhaps up to 2000 calories. It is not magical however, it is mainly explained by differences in sitting, standing and moving rather than the smaller differences brought about by twitching, nodding and smiling (though they still account for some).⁣ ⁣ Levine found that lean subjects stood and moved for about 2 Β½ hours more per day than obese subjects, even when performing the same job. This accounted for up to 350 calories more per day.⁣ ⁣ πŒπ„π“π€ππŽπ‹πˆπ’πŒ 𝐑𝐄𝐅𝐄𝐑𝐒 π“πŽ 𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐒𝐄 πŸ’ ππ‘πŽπ‚π„π’π’π„π’ - πˆπ“ πƒπŽπ„π’ ππŽπ“ 𝐑𝐄𝐅𝐄𝐑 π“πŽ πŒπ€π†πˆπ‚β£ ⁣ ⁣ #NEAT
