๐Ÿ‘€ I was running at the track last week, saw this tub and my ATC brain perked up. . You can take the athletic trainer out of sports but you canโ€™t take sports out of the athletic trainer...or something like that. ๐Ÿ˜ . Anyways, it got me thinking about preparation and recovery ๐Ÿ’†๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธand all of the things we do for our body outside of movement. . With athletes, we encourage ice baths ๐Ÿ› and rest, hydration, good nutrition ๐Ÿฅ—and quality sleep ๐Ÿ˜ด. . Good coaches will even go to great lengths to manage stress levels ๐Ÿคฏ and design practices and in-season training so that athletes peak at the right times. . If these principles are a normal part of an athleteโ€™s lifestyle, then why donโ€™t we think theyโ€™re crucial for us too? . Most patients and clients I work with could benefit from: . โœ… More sleep โžก๏ธ 7 hrs minimum โœ… Higher quality food โœ… Better managing their stress โœ… Deep breathing techniques โžก๏ธ 4.7.8 . If youโ€™re doing all the right PHYSICAL things for your injury/pain and nothing seems to be changing, you MUST look at these other contributing factors in your life. ๐Ÿ•ต๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ . The nervous system perceives stress no matter what form it comes in and will do what it needs to, to protect you from doing something stupid. Pain is one of the ways this manifests. ๐Ÿ˜ . Pain is tricky because itโ€™s not always reflective of whatโ€™s going on at the tissue level but it IS reflective of whatโ€™s going on in your life/mind/environment. ๐Ÿค” . So if you want to reduce pain and make more progress with your injury, take the entirety of your life seriously. It makes a difference!
