Today, people across the world are are taking part in the student-led #GlobalClimateStrike. According to @GretaThunberg, the 16-year-old activist behind the #climatestrike, 4,638 marches are slated to take place in 139 countries. Climate change is settled science. It's also a matter of public health. The time to act is now. The most effective way to make a difference is to support and vote for political candidates who recognize climate change as a major global health and security threat, and who have plans and policies to do something about it. Also important: Maintain hope. Keep fighting for a healthy future. We can do this.
For this week's #SweatWithSELF, we've got a 5-move butt workout, and all you need is a resistance band. Do each move for 20 reps—and for the standing glute kicks, be sure to do 20 reps on each side. Repeat twice through. For a longer version of the workout, plus more moves and deets, tap the link in our bio. 💥
"Doctors call me all sorts of things. Often times I’m the 'complex, complicated, difficult patient.' ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ These words over time started to hurt me. I realized what most of these doctors were communicating was 'you overwhelm me.' 'I don’t know anything about your disease.' 'You’re unfixable and I cant help you.' ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Now thankfully, I have a few doctors who can handle my case with grace. And I’m working to re-write this abled story of my body being complicated, difficult, broken and overwhelming. My body actually is unique, resilient and interesting. We are doing our best together. I’m a rare unicorn and that’s awesome 🦄 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ What about you? Do you re-write the names that you’ve been called?" #TeamSELFregram @chroniczebra 💞
Trying to come up with one universally healthy snack is like trying to come up with one universally healthy meal or diet: It's not that simple, because what's healthy for one person in one situation may look completely different for another person in another situation. But there are some general guidelines to follow when you're in the mood for something in-between meals that fits your needs. We asked R.D.s for examples of healthy snacks that apply general healthy-snacking principles to real-world contexts. See their recommendations at the link in bio.
You’re doing your weekly grocery shopping and meal prep, kicking ass in the kitchen making delicious, balanced meals. You’re also living with your S.O., and said S.O. is not getting on board with your new healthy lifestyle. You try talking them into it, explaining the benefits, why it’ll be good for them, and nothing seems to be registering. Eventually disagreements and arguments ensue. Here's what to do when that happens at the link bio.
Listen to your body! 🌬 For a lot of us, being tired can feel like a constant mood (because, life). But if you’re consistently experiencing fatigue, there may be more causing your exhaustion than just a busy schedule. Here are some health issues that can make you really darn tired—if you’ve been feeling tired to the extreme, consider chatting with your doctor about any of the above. #SELFCareSundays
