19-04-2019 History and culture being destroyed is a tragedy no matter where it is located. The Notre Dame is appreciated and cherished my many- the people who donate feel a certain connection and responsibility to maintain this symbol. Thus, I can understand that French billionaires would spend millions on a French landmark. However, the whole point is that those ultra-wealthy people also possess the ability to lift systematic misery. Therefore, the problem is not the fact that they donated a fortune to the Notre Dame, but the lack of attention to eradicate other issues. Existential world problems like refugee lives, huge tracts of green land, a weeping climate, people dying from preventable illnesses, oceans acidifying, border policies, austerity, the starvation and poverty of the weakest are not receiving the same energy. And yes I know, solving famine for example is not easy. It’s extremely complex and intertwined with the country’s government and mindset of the people in contradiction with rebuilding the Notre Dame which is way more simple. Only donating to reduce starvation would not help, but this doesn’t mean we should let 36 million people die each year while there is growing enough food to feed everybody. The failure to do so comes from our failure to recognize mundane emergencies that claims lives all around us every single day. “Works of art and architectural history rely on the ingenuity of people, and it’s the people and the planet who must be protected above all else”. Take home message: protect your history and art, but without a habitable planet and it’s diverse and healthy habitants, history, culture and art will also vanish.

26-03-2019 Do you give to charity/volunteer because you really want to contribute and make a difference? Or is it because you want to prove other people you are a good person? Does the praise of other people feed you? Be honest with yourself. Also, there is a difference between bringing attention to the cause and “LOOK AT ME I AM SO KIND AND GENEROUS”. Praise is not the point of being kind. I read a Hindi quote that said: do good deeds and throw them them in the sea. Maybe because once it’s in the sea it’s not reachable, you can’t get it out, you can’t access it. It’s gone. It’s done. There shouldn’t be a sense of entitlement, a sense of pride of wanting praise and recognition. Like mother Teresa said: “It’s not how much we give but how much love we put into giving.”

25-03-2018 you must insist on being curious. curious is what we should be. ask questions, research, know. being ignorant is not cool or trendy. fill your brain with knowledge. Many people believe everything they see or hear. But where is the proof? Did you hear it with your own eyes and ears? Did you do your research? What kind of resources did you use? The truth you believe in and cling to can make you unavailable to hear anything new. Remind yourself of this constantly and allow yourself to listen. The problem with closed minded people is that their mouths are always open, not their ears. Also, respecting other views is very important. Only befriending people with the same opinions as you may seem easier to communicate with, but it will not develop you. Find people who are friends for YOU, not your beliefs. Value people for where they are in life, not where you WANT them to be. Not everyone IS the same, but we should TREAT everyone like that.
