I’d like to be real about my food choices lately and how they have contributed to my overall health.
•
Recently, my blood pressure has been on the high side. Not actual “high” blood pressure, but high enough for my age that the doctor was slightly concerned (144/104, but a follow-up test right after was 125/90).
•
Personally, I think the main cause has been stress and lack of sleep. I thrive on the go-go-go, but apparently, my blood pressure can’t keep up anymore.
•
Add the stress of work to the stress of life, less than stellar food choices, and lack of sleep, and it’s no wonder my blood pressure is on the high side.
•
After discussing with my doctor, I’ve decided to address in the following ways: meditate 15 minutes every morning before work, no more looking at my emails first thing upon waking (that’s why I keep a to-do list), turn off electronics at 9:00, in bed by 10:00, and cut sugar, alcohol, and grains completely for a few weeks (dairy’s been out for a while now), and continue exercising regularly.it works. Will retest in a week!

View thepaleoattorney's Instagram SWITCHING IT UP // lawyering out of my colleague’s office today, where I’m switching between @trestlelaw work and Helix Law Firm work. Fun fact: I actually work as “of counsel” for a couple of badass, highly experienced lawyers (and their firms) around San Diego. Think of me like a private labeler for other law firms.
•
Not only do my of counsel gigs give me additional reliable work, but they also help expand my network and give my clients access to some phenomenal lawyers with decades of legal experience.
•
Another fun fact: Between me and the 2 primary attorneys that get me as a #bonuslawyer, we’ve got over 50 years of experience!
•
Is my business model what you’d call “traditional?” Heck no! I’m not fancy, I use Skype, I work remotely for the most part, and I have close friendships with several of my clients. But you know what? I love carving my own path in the world of law, especially considering how rigid and curmudgeonly our industry can be. Don’t be afraid to have confidence in your choice to be different. The only person you’re “competing” with is yourself. So, go kick some ass! 1617747718485491714_24013034

View thepaleoattorney's Instagram FRIYAY based on my last post, you’re probably thinking I’m all-consumed by this baby making stuff. Yes, it’s a bitch. Yes, I have days. But for the most part, my life is awesome. I’m working on relishing this #childfree life for now, because looking back and wishing I’d appreciated a life without kids more before I had ‘em would equally suck.
•
@lindsvh has tap danced at #Disney 2 years in a row, and I’ve tagged along both times to cheer her on, and then park hopped the rest of the day. This year, we decided to do 2 days instead of 1. 60,000 steps later, and I thought my feet would fall off.
•
We strolled by the castle at just the perfect moment during the fireworks show, and Lindsay snapped this pic.
•
All I can say is #infertility is not this all-encompassing thing in my life. It’s just one aspect of it. I use @therock ’s mantra from @hboballers almost daily - “I am bigger than my problems.” It sounds cheesy, but it really works and is so true!
•
If you let your problems - whatever they may be - consume your life, you’ll miss out on so much. Laughter, love, food, friends, family - all because you’re stuck in a pit of your own making. I’m not saying I’m immune to feeling like trash or getting down on myself, but the key is how you pull yourself up and move forward. ❤️✌ have a kickass weekend. 1614761712702317006_24013034

View thepaleoattorney's Instagram #RealTalk. Dealing with infertility and running a professional services business can be tough. For those who don't know, our first IUI was canceled last Monday, because the clomid (I didn't want or necessarily need) worked "too well," and there was a risk of HOM (high order multiples for those not living in this world. As a side note, there are SO many acronyms).
•
My RE's decision to cancel our IUI left me crushed. I did NOT want to take drugs, ever. After long talks with friends and family, I decided to give ONE cycle a try. The #clomid was AWFUL. Every side effect imaginable (so grateful for my acupuncturist Katie Beskin). Then, after all that, canceled.
•
I wanted to wallow, cry, scream, and sleep for the rest of the day (ha! On a Monday). Instead, I had one client going through a major acquisition, another selling some assets, and another needing to send a cease and desist (among other projects). Needless to say, my work as an attorney went on, and my clients required my full attention. Not to mention, my husband was away on a camping trip and wasn't set to return until a day or two after my appointment. He came back with SALMONELLA, but that's a different story.
•
What did I do? I had a great chat with a few of my closest confidantes, got my work done (it took my mind off the crappy news and actually made me more determined to deliver quality work), and got my hair did. It turned out to be just the right mix of work and self care to help me through the day and process the news. •
Even this week, the work hasn't ceased, and continues to go on. As I sit in my home office plugging away, I'm still experiencing the rollercoaster of emotions (likely due to the lingering effects of clomid). I keep reminding myself that it's ok to feel that moment of anger/frustration/grief/loneliness, but to remember that there are all kinds of people (doctors, lawyers, engineers, SAHMs, consultants, teachers, etc.) facing the same struggles. We're all in this together, despite not knowing each other. That gives me some comfort and keeps me moving forward. 1607469720976896223_24013034

To say this adventure with @nickaroberts has been soul-filling would be an understatement. We've experienced belly laughs, inside jokes (this is the trip of lost caps and being completely unable to take a good "state sign" pic), the awe-inspiring splendor of Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons, roaming buffalo, late-night wolf calls , a black bear campsite raid , Old Faithful, colorful hot springs, the doggos running free (then almost getting lost), rooftop tent sleeps ⛺️, wobbly iPad movies, one underwhelming (and 9 hours long) audiobook, passing through 5 states (California, Arizona, Utah, Idaho, and Wyoming), roadside sandwiches , fireside freeze dried camp food , woodland poops , Jeep showers , driving across a waterfall, amazing teamwork, and one freaking epic total solar eclipse.
•
As we start our journey home, I keep finding that my current default emotion is gratitude. So grateful for this trip, my husband, my dogs, and this life. 1587086936781433027_24013034

View thepaleoattorney's Instagram Business and babies ! Got to spend a lovely morning with my dear friend, client, and fellow business woman @theresalarson + baby Magnus. I'd met Magnus when he was 2 weeks old, but this was the first time I got to hold him, and drink in all his sweetness. I also got to engage in some really deep, adult conversation with Magnus' momma.
•
I am often asked why my husband and I don't have any kids, and whether I've thought about having kids while running a business. Without completely blowing my top over why male business owners never get asked these questions, I'd like to share the following with you. Just to set the record perfectly f**king straight. We want kids. We'd love to have kids. We've actually been trying for a while now. But guess what? Sh*t ain't happening for whatever reason.
•
I'm not disclosing this information to solicit information about what worked for others. Chances are, I've already tried what you would recommend. Yes, I've got a RE. And if your next response is, "just relax and stop thinking about it," I swear I might slap you.
•
But again, my reason for sharing this very personal information with you is not to highlight my fertility challenges, but to address a larger problem we have when it comes to judging women and their life choices, overall. Whether we choose to run a business, work for someone else, have kids, don't have kids, adopt, foster, or whatever, there seems to be a slew of "here's what I did, and you should try it too" advice that doesn't necessarily work for everyone.
•
It's my hope that we women can be a little more supportive of those who walk a different path than our own. My job is demanding, and running a business is hard, but that doesn't give anyone license to assume or judge whether I'm capable of having kid while simultaneously running a successful business. So, to all those out there who are struggling: I feel you. To all those who have babies: fight on, mommas! Keep up the good work! To all those who don't want kids, or made the conscious decision not to have them: good on you. That is a really strong, independent choice that is hard in light of the judgments we face. Just keep doing you. ✌❤️ 1532265765515050447_24013034

View thepaleoattorney's Instagram I know Memorial Day is typically spent at BBQs and lounging poolside, but this year, I decided to do something different. Woke up at 4:15 am to head to Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery for the Truman San Diego Rose Ceremony. We listened to stories of former/current service men and women and Gold Star Families and honored those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service of their country by placing a rose on each grave. This year, over 800 community member and elected official volunteers came together to place a rose on over 30,000 graves. Yes, it was early. But it felt incredibly special and the perfect way to spend a reflective moment on this day. #truSD #TruMemorial #memorialday 1525486692449273533_24013034
