View bonothebono's Instagram I've always thought it wasn't right for Ireland to keep the 8th amendment of their constitution which makes abortion generally illegal, when , almost all european nations gives the right to woman to decide what to do with their bodies, health and like @jordanjoyhewson said "dignity" . I wish I was in Dublin to take part in the "march for choice", but if I'm here next year and abortion is still considered illegal in this beautiful country, you can be sure I'll fight with Irish women.

View rallyforchoice's Instagram Strike4Repeal was a collective of women who came together to bring Ireland to a halt over our archaic abortion laws.
In January they issued their demand to the government: call a referendum on the 8th Amendment by the 8th March or there would be a national strike. The government failed to take their demand seriously and as a result they brought Dublin City Centre and many other towns and cities in Ireland to a standstill on International Women’s Day.

Crucially, they made the connection between political and personal issues through their use of the tool of striking. They highlighted that thousands of people had taken time off work every year to access abortions and asked for solidarity to be shown to them through striking.
Solidarity can best be described in the old saying that “An injury to one is an injury to all.” It is a vital element to any social change, without it we are easily divided and weak, with it we are strong. Breaking away from an individualist style of campaigning, Strike4Repeal brought us back to this basic component of radical campaigning and change. They urged us to connect the personal with the political and through doing so everyone who took part in the strike was a part of something special.

Strike4Repeal injected a much needed fresh dose of radicalism and excitement into the abortion campaign at a time when it was needed the most. Through their courage and bravery in demanding and pursuing rights, a whole population of young women were spurred into protest and radical politics.

We need more ambition in our campaigning and organising, Strike4Repeal serves as an inspiration to us as we strive towards a braver and more revolutionary style of protest

View womensmarchglobal's Instagram Important news from ReSisters in the U.K.: This week the Irish government announced that a referendum will be held next year on whether to repeal a constitutional amendment that gives equal rights to a woman and her unborn child, thus opening the door to legalising abortion. This will be held just months before Pope Francis is due to visit the Catholic-majority country.

In northern Ireland, women carry the passports but not the entitlements of British citizens (who have had access to legal abortions for 50 years, since 1967). Calls to "Repeal the 8th" have been steadily growing for years. In March, thousands of activists brought Dublin to a halt during the Strike 4 Repeal rally. This Saturday, organizers expect tens of thousands to demonstrate in the Irish capital at the sixth annual March for Choice.
