Do you sometimes feel lost and adrift, bobbing up and down in a sea of pointless days and dreary nights? Perhaps every now and then you wash up on some new shore (a new friendship, a new relationship, a new job, a new plan, a new project, a new opportunity), but then in sweeps the tide and you find yourself pulled out again into a sea of nothing more than you treading water and trying to stay afloat.
Perhaps you begin to doubt whether there is truly a purpose for your life. You wonder if God really has a plan for you. Maybe you even wonder if you missed His plan and if it’s too late for you.
Let me encourage you today. God has a plan for you! When you’re on the shore living your dream, He has a plan for you. And when you’re treading water and trying to stay afloat, He has a plan for you. When you are His, His work in your life doesn’t stop. Whether you are currently being an obedient Joshua on the shore following His marching orders or a disobedient Jonah on the waters running from Him, He is a faithful God. He can collapse a wall, send a storm, or have you swallowed by a fish! He’s great at meeting us where we are. He doesn’t stop unfolding His purpose, whether we’re on the land or in the sea!
So when you doubt whether there is a purpose for your life, remember this: His purposes for you began before there even was a you! Before you even showed up on the planet He had already determined when you would make your entrance, when you would make your exit, and where He would position you on the planet between those two events. (Acts 17:26) He DETERMINED your when and your where.
And listen to this, He did it for a reason: so that you would seek Him and find Him. (Acts 17:27)
So since He determines your when and where, why not rest in Him for the what, the why, and the how? Seek Him rather than just seeking purpose. When you seek Him you are living your purpose and He orders your steps.
