The new year arrives in 40 days, and that has me thinking about what actions I'll be taking to get me closer to the life I want for myself. Since stepping into this life coaching work, I no longer set New Year resolutions. But that doesn't mean the start of a new year isn't a good time to revisit the visions and dreams I have for the coming years. This picture of me has been around for awhile, and I look at it all the time. It's the screen saver on my laptop and my phone, and I have the photo stuck into the corner of a mirror I peer into regularly. This snapshot connects me to one of the biggest visions I have for my life: To have access to a beautiful beach any time I desire, whether it's the sand and water at Lake Michigan in the summer or the Caribbean Sea in the winter (or all year!). Each day, I take a couple moments to conjure up images of myself sitting at the edge of the water, then swimming in it, satiated by the sun and sound of the waves. I color in all the details: what I'm wearing, how the air smells, the sky's shade of blue, who is near me. I imagine how I'll feel at that beach...warm, relaxed, peaceful. This envisioning is an important piece of getting closer to all that is possible for my life. Winter and the new year are coming, friends. What vision is keeping you warm?
