View yogafruchey's Instagram WHAT IS YOUR NUMBER??
..
Set the timer on your phone for one minute: close your eyes and count every round (inhale:exhale) of breath until the timer goes off. How many rounds did you do?
..
Now Set the timer again, this time work to make sure the inhalation and the exhalation are even in length. Count the rounds again until your phone beeps. Did you get to a different number?
..
There is no right number, and no goal. It's good to know about how many rounds of breath you can do in one minute. Playing around with this practice offers you a chance to calm your body and mind while waiting in line, driving, cleaning, sitting in a meeting, listening to an annoying conversation, etc. #breathe #tryit #calm #relax #chillax -

Humans (and mammals in general) are meant to breathe through the nose❗️
'It was only when our ancient ancestors were in dangerous situations that they reverted to mouth breathing to take in greater volumes of air in preparation for intense physical activity' - Patrick McKeown
Here are some reasons why you should be nasal breathing almost all the time (with the exception of intense physical activity):
▪️Nasal breathing promotes abdominal diaphragmatic breathing, whereas mouth breathing promotes more upper chest breathing (try it)
▪️Nasal breathing helps ensure regular, calm, steady breathing using the diaphragm, where mouth/upper chest breathing is more likely to be associated with a stress response in the body (fight or flight)
▪️Nasal breathing warms and humidifies the incoming air, and removes a significant amount of germs and bacteria from the air you breathe in - your nasal cavity acts as a filter system
▪️ Nasal breathing creates approximately 50% more resistance to the airstream than mouth breathing, resulting in significantly more oxygen uptake
▪️Nasal breathing during exercise allows for a much greater training response and promotes an increased VO2 max
Watch a baby breathe, and you will see only nasal/diaphragmatic breathing patterns, as they have not learned bad breathing habits. In addition, animals in the wild will only breathe through their mouths when sick, dying, or in danger
✔️ Breathe through the nose for better health and like we were designed to
(Inspired by the book: the oxygen advantage)

View adamwolfpt's Instagram A great post about nasal breathing vs mouth. For me, if you're breathing through your mouth and you're not exercising you're demonstrating some opportunities for improvement.

About to give this #blastmask for #ScottPack a test run on the #treadmill. Before you and say elevation mask, the purpose here is different. Since we average only one #Signal10 a year and getting a seat at the fire academy is months away, I figure this is a good way to get used to #breathing in the mask under #stress. Here goes....
